I know nothing about CCDStack or anything pertaining to the hows of taking these pictures, but I love to look at them. I'm facinated with astrology. As for your Messier 31 pictures,I prefer the first one posted in October 2010. It looks more real. Good job!!!

Sweet! I see what you mean about too much red. It hides some of the intricate details in the bright area (at the back of the head).

I wish I could remove the CAPTCHA, but the spammers would quickly take over.

I wrote a long response, but it got dumped because I couldn't read the two words in the CAPTCHA box. Frustrating.

I definitely like this one better, and agree w/ drsky at the same time. JPG suck.

Wow, the JPG compression is just killing that new image. I didn't realize how bad the JPG actually looked compared to the PSD file.

Such as? I guess I can see that the black point is clipped a bit and maybe it's not as smooth as the first.

The first is a better good start. The second has too many processing artifacts.

I still recommend a Faraday cage for your head though.

Yeah, custom work is currently the only way I know to use canon lenses with the filter wheel. Check out the Nikon adapter that SBIG has. It actually replaces the nose plate on the front of the filter wheel. Might be able to have a machinist make something similar for a Canon bayonet. I don't know how much difference there is between the Canon and Nikon back focus distance.

Ok thanks,

I've seen that adapter mentioned before. However, I have the FW5 filter wheel which consumes 20mm of back focus in addition to the 17.5mm of the camera - totaling 37.5mm. This means I need to get the lens attached in under 6.5mm. I think it can be done but it might require some custom work.

Hutech has an adapter set that will work WITHOUT the filter wheel. It consists for three threaded rings and if I replace the two thin rings with my T-mounted 12nm h-Alpha, it works like a champ. It limits you to B & W if you have the mono camera, but should work great with the color one.

How did you attach the lens to the ST8300? I can't find any adapters that will work with EOS lenses and filters and still get in under the 44mm backfocus limit.
