Slow month for remodelling

February has been a slow month for my "project". Click on the hammer to see the project starting from when I began the remodeling blog. My primary helper, Dad, has turned snowbird on me. Before he left, we were able to fill in some of the more drastic holes in the floor caused by the removal of walls and moving HVAC vents.

In Dad's absence, I was able to con my brother into a night of labor to hang the ceiling drywall for the center/living room. I think it took longer to move the living room furniture and electronics than it did to actually hang the drywall. At least now I don't have to worry about insulation coming down on my head.

Next up is a lot of electrical work. The only existing outlets in the two front rooms were in the floor, and they've all been removed, along with a lot of nasty looking wiring. Besides the in-wall wiring, I need to get a new breaker box to accommodate the new meter and underground service that I'm going to have installed. The overhead service runs right through the middle of a tree, which has always made me nervous, and I want to enclose the back patio which means that the meter has got to be moved.

Also on the agenda, but not something I'm going to actually do myself, is a new driveway. The existing one is every bit of 50 years old, and the past winter has really taken a bat to it.

It's always had cracks, and of course the large pothole in front of the front door, but with all the ice this year, it's really heaved and flaked to the point where I just can take it any more. I'm sure my neighbor will be thrilled, too, as I will no longer be hurling rocks at his house with my snow blower. I'm a little nervous about the cost. I haven't gotten any estimates, but I'm sure that having 30 sq. yards of concrete removed and professionally replaced isn't going to be cheap.

That crazy, baby-popping machine in California has taken to cyber-begging, maybe I should set up my own site with pictures of my poor, dilapidated driveway and beg for donations to replace it.
